Later, Jobster…
Dave Lefkow said Friday he is leaving Jobster after 2.5 years “to pursue other interests” despite “some really exciting times ahead for Jobster.”
The company’s vice president of professional services acknowledges that the industry landscape has evolved into a hip place to be, with online recruiting technologies “focused on revolutionizing how people find the right jobs and how companies find great people at a much more accelerated pace than we’ve seen over the last seven or eight years,” he wrote on his blog.
Next up for Lefkow: time off to spend with family, a new blog, and a to-be-determined next step.
New CEO At LinkedIn…
Dan Nye has been appointed chief executive officer of LinkedIn, replacing founder Reid Hoffman.
Not surprisingly, the company discovered Nye through the power of…LinkedIn networking! Company officials said the search “leveraged the world’s most sophisticated hiring and reference tool, LinkedIn” to find Nye.
Hoffman will remain as the company’s chairman and president of the products division.
LinkedIn averages about nine million users, which includes approximately four million members in North America, three million in Europe, and more than one million in Asia.
New Resources for Gen Y Workers…
It’s Time to Get a Life…and Kelly Services is hoping that Gen Y workers will find its new online career site worthwhile. Services include free weekly interview tips delivered via mobile phone, case studies, cell ringtones, and video podcasts starring Efren Ramirez (“Pedro” in the film Napoleon Dynamite, which has a Gen Y cult following).
Among Gen Y workers, studies have confirmed that work-life balance is more important than salary. Mercer Human Resources Consulting found that 83% percent of workers in the 18-24 age group were motivated by flexibility, while only 73% were motivated by salary.
A Kelly Services study revealed that Free Agents (defined as individuals who prioritize work-life balance and who work largely untethered to an organization) already represent 28% of the workforce, a number that is growing each day.
